Entrepreneurial Services

Entrepreneurial ServicesDrawing on our own experience as business owners, our knowledge of the law, and our broad network of industry contacts, the lawyers of Kornfeld LLP have a strong sense of entrepreneurship and follow a real-world approach to the practice of law. We understand the natural lifecycle of an enterprise: what it takes to start a business, succeed in a competitive marketplace, and effect appropriate transitions and exit strategies as a company matures. We have particular experience advising family-owned businesses, and recognize the unique dynamics that arise with regard to finance and management issues, taxation, and estate and succession planning.

We serve as full-spectrum advisors to our clients, providing counsel on virtually every aspect of their businesses, from determining the appropriate form of entity, to obtaining early stage and growth financing, identifying and protecting intellectual property and other creative assets, and devising employment plans that attract and retain top-quality talent. For closely held and family-owned businesses, we provide counsel on owners’ rights, duties and obligations to the company and each other, and help clients plan for transitions associated with death, disability, divorce and disagreements.

Our lawyers regularly act as general counsel and advisors to companies in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia and internationally, handling routine matters and significant transactions alike. We help clients address ongoing business demands, including day-to-day operations, fiscal management, growth strategies, tax planning and competitive positioning, and work with them to identify and leverage emerging opportunities.

In addition to our work on behalf of clients, firm lawyers regularly contribute to the development of legal and business professionals throughout the region. A number of our lawyers serve as lecturers and faculty members at schools of law and business, including Simon Fraser University, and we speak regularly before organizations such as the Vancouver Board of Trade on topics such as partnership disputes, directors’ liability, and shareholders’ agreements for entrepreneurs.
